ACM is Going Fully Open Access in 2026
On January 1, 2026, all ACM Publications will be Open Access (OA). This transition ensures that all articles will be free to read—maximizing global impact and visibility.

Open Access for ACM-sponsored Conference Organizers
ACM-sponsored conferences are owned and operated by ACM.
All ACM-sponsored conference proceedings will be Open Access from January 1, 2026.
- Authors publishing a proceedings paper are not required to pay an article processing charge (APC) if the corresponding author is affiliated with an ACM Open institution.
- An APC applies to proceedings papers if the corresponding author is not affiliated with an ACM Open institution, unless a waiver applies or the conference agrees to cover any required APCs.

Open Access for International Conference Proceedings Series (ICPS) Organizers
ACM’s open access publishing model for ICPS conferences was introduced in January 2024.
- Authors publishing a proceedings paper are not required to pay an article processing charge (APC) if the corresponding author is affiliated with one of the 1,800+ institutions that have joined the ACM Open Program.
- Corresponding authors whose institutions have not yet joined ACM Open will be required to pay an article processing charge (APC), unless a waiver applies or the conference agrees to cover any required APCs.
